Are you in the midst of finding a niche that you are eager to be in to start and build your internet business or blog online? Choosing the correct niche for your online business is very important to ensure your sustainability in your online business. You want to enter a niche that will make you MONEY, selling products that people want to buy online, has consistent interest but at the same time not too much competition or already reach saturation. Before you enter a prospective niche, do some research before your enter. I will look at 5 of the most important reason why niche research is a must and steps to achieve it:
1. You don’t want to enter a niche with little interest.
When you choose a niche, you want to make sure there are a lot of people interested in the niche. There are several ways you can go about researching this. Try looking at Google Trends, perform keyword research (look at my past blog post on doing keyword research) to determine if your niche has sufficient interest.
If there is no interest in the niche you choose, you are certainly not going to find buyers, and you will not get traffic either. Without either of these it is just about impossible to make money in a niche.
2. You don’t want to enter a niche where there are no buyers.
A lot of niches have what are considered freebie seekers. These are the people that come to your site only looking for what they can get for free. They will be some buyers, but by really researching and understanding what people in the niche are looking for, you can avoid choosing a niche with a large majority of freebie seekers.
Find out through the affiliate programs like Clickbank, Commission Junction (CJ) whether the products in the niche sells and how many are there. If there is no interest, or you see very few affiliates promoting these products, just skip this niche. Also, determine whether your niche information can be found easily at a low price or even FREE. Are you entering a niche like TV or Movie Resource when you can get this information for FREE from internet websites or TV program guides online or from magazines?
Focus your attention to something that can bring in a lot of sales and revnues from people who are NOT AFRAID to spend money.
3. You don’t want to invest your time building a site in a niche with no search traffic.
Tow of the best ways to get traffic to your site are Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay Per Click (PPC). SEO is where you get listed in the results pages for searches (organic results). PPC is where you pay for the sponsored ads on the results pages of Google or content sites. If a lot of people are not searching for your keywords you won’t do any good to be listed in either spot, because there won’t be traffic to the results pages. Here, you have to go back to the ‘good old’ keyword research.
Basically you want to make sure there is a lot of search traffic coming to your keywords before you choose that niche, because SEO and PPC traffic are both driven through search engine searches. Select related keywords from your niche. Try searching for these keywords or phrases in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Check out the available results. These will be your niche COMPETITION. And, check out whether there are PPC featured with your search result. The more PPC ads, you can be assured that no people are willing to spend MONEY (PPC) to promote sites or products in this niche unless there are buyers. Just make sure the niche is not over-saturated with too much competition.
4. You want to choose the best products to affiliate yourself with.
If there are not great products to affiliate yourself in your niche, you will either be choosing products your customers will not like or you won’t have any affiliated products. This is a drastically reduce your MONEY generating ability of your niche site. So, ensure you find some great prducts before you choose a niche. Even, try some out before you promote them. Customers also will not trust you for future purchases if you recommend sub par products.
5. You want to build a content site people will come back to.
Are you really interested in the niche or at least want to be interested? To start a site, you need to know a lot about the niche. Unless you plan to build mini-sites, I suggest building an authority site. This is because you want people to be able to come to your site and find quality content, put up great comments and ask questions. If you an authority in the niche, you can showcase your knowledge on the niche. This will let visitors know that you know what you are talking about and you can create a following to your blog or website. If you are weak in your knowledge, unless you intend to outsource your content, you will quickly lose your following of loyal visitors because of your shallow content or incompetency. You just need to make sure you know enough about the niche before you launch a site in it.
Conclusion
As you can see, it is very important to research niches before choosing one at random to start your online business. Research can take a lot of time to do it right, but is necessary. Check out some of the related links of my blog post on this subject.
