The Secret To Great Content - Intimacy

Have you ever read articles or even sales page that hypnotized you into reading not only the headlines, sub headers, but all of its content from top to bottom in a “waking trance-like state”? Ok… no spooky hypnotizing method that I’m going to teach you here. This is not exactly scary… more like being totally absorbed, probably very similar to being absorbed in a good movie or being riveted by a good book.

So, what is the secret of writing articles, content posts or even sale pages that captivate the reader to the state of total interest that almost nothing else matters? If we do this right, this will lead readers to take positive action instead of just bouncing off to another website.

What are the characteristics and secret to great content? What captivates you when you read a post or article?

    One word: Intimacy

Expose your personality behind your writings

All of us will probably sense a personality behind the words that we read. As you read these words here, by me, you probably get a feeling for my personality. This secret is one of the greatest keys to creating great and captivating content. People buy from people they like. When you allow your personality to come through, people feel a sense of intimacy with you. They begin to trust you. And like you. Rapport is built, and sales happen.

All the most successful bloggers who are in my blog reading list, seem to have this characteristic when they write. It keeps me wanting to know what they are going to say next. They write and reveal portions of their lives and personality, their thought pattern, current successes or failures, well-being and even feelings at that moment, which I find extremely “relatable”. You can identify with what the writer is writing and you will continue to read. Remember the reader is only interested in him/herself.

Kinda like you are hooked to catch the next episode of “Friends” or “Desperate Housewives”. :-)

Intimacy in writing gives writers credibility. You can see most of these bloggers have a high number of RSS readership and huge opt-in list with many more readers added to these list everyday.

I am not advocating being mindless in our communication. It is that we should have the permission to write in any way that we feel right. If we write in a slang, then use a slang. If we come from a different country, let the uniqueness come forth. if we like to tell funny stories, then tell them. Our style is our voice, and our voice will create an intimacy with our readers that is profound.

Work with real facts ad real benefits and solid ideas

Letting our personality shine is fine but it has to be built on real credibility. It is easy for most of us to use misleading words to mislead, and it is so easy to do it behind anonymity and in desperation of closing sales. We need to write using real facts, benefits and solid ideas that give the backbone to our writing. Do good research.

People are not dumb. It will be worse off when your readers find out. Burn your readers once and you may lose them forever. And not only that, research has proved that those people will tell 8 to 10 other people about your crime.

Beware of pointless posts or articles that waste out time

Caroline Middlebrook is an upcoming full-time internet marketer that simply writes it candidly in the way that I like about 11 pointless blog posts that wastes her time . I will not repeat it here but you can read her post by following the link.

I hope you enjoy this post… and hope you look forward to my next post. To practise what I preach (write), if you notice, I have gotten rid of my “dolphin” avatar to reveal me. As usual, Digg, Stumbleupon, and do the usual bookmark stuff to bring in the traffic… Thanks!

Well, have a great week ahead and God bless!
